A lot of people don’t really think of the South when they think of ski mountains, but ski resorts like Wintergreen Resort in Virginia may cause them to rethink this. Known as the single best ski resort in the South, Wintergreen Resort offers skiers 11,000 acres with 19 trails. With a top elevation of 3516 feet and a 1003 foot vertical drop, beginners, intermediates, and experts will all find suitable trails at Wintergreen Resort. Beginners can take free group lessons, which are offered to any guest who rents Wintergreen equipment.

There are six lifts, including five chair lifts and one surface lift. If you prefer snowboarding, there is also a dedicated terrain park dedicated to that pursuit. Located near Charlottesville, Virginia, you will experience breathtaking views of the Appalachian Mountains and be surrounded by luxury.

If you have non-skiers in your group, they might enjoy tubing, snowmobiling, tennis, hiking, or horseback riding. The Out of Bounds Adventure Center is a very popular attraction at the resort with rock climbing and bungee trampolines. The Outdoor Wilderness Leadership school offers corporate retreats, real rock climbing, rappelling, and mountain biking.

Wintergreen is a great spot for a family vacation. There are a variety of activities for you and your children, including craft workshops, campfires and storytelling, hay rides, and many more community events scheduled throughout the year. You can also participate in order activities, such as winter hiking, tubing, skiing, snowboarding, and swimming in a cozy indoor pool.

When you’re not skiing at Wintergreen Resort, you’ll want to see the civil war history attractions and visit some local wineries. Or take time to enjoy the Wintergreen Spa, where you can pamper yourself with massages, body wraps, skin treatments, and nail care. Stay fit when off the slopes at the Mountaintop Aquatic and Fitness Center, featuring strength equipment, cardiovascular equipment, heated pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas.
